Kilcoy Castle open gardens
I had been looking forward to going to the Open Gardens at Kilcoy Castle again but the forecast looked terrible with thunderstorms and heavy rain predicted. We braved the conditions and took a chance. We left home in sunshine but it was not long before we left a blue sky and faced threatening clouds that eventful burst into heavy rain. Fantastic skies though and as we were abit early we headed for Tesco to get some things we can not get locally. Bought some bubble mixture at a reduced price for a Brownies session and a couple of wands as well.
The rain had started again when we went back to the car.We had to be careful not to slip as there was an oil spillage and most of the carpark was covered in a rainbow slick.
We decided to go straight to the castle and sit in the car until the weather improved. It stopped raining when we got there thank goodness as we had to park in a cow field ( no cows present ) so we had to watch our footing on the way to the entrance ;)
A lovely hour and abit wandering the gardens and chatting to a man who was brought up in the Castle. He had not been back for 40 years.
Like most gardens it has suffered in the weather and most plants had finished flowering, although the seed heads were still very attractive.
We had a coffee and a cake ( unfortunately not homemade ) sitting with the company of Daisy the dog.
We drove down to Redcastle and had shared sandwich.More dramatic skies.
In the evening we watched live streaming of The National from a festival in Brussels.Richard was there and we caught sight of him a few times. He was delighted that Matt, the lead singer, came and sang right in front of the group he was with :) Another great concert, they are so good live.
