Nisida
Flying into Naples over Nisida, a small volcanic islet with an interesting history. It was here that Cassius and Brutus plotted Caesar’s murder and where Portia, Brutus ‘s daughter killed herself.
In the 19th century it was a very barbaric Bourbon prison visited by Gladstone and denounced for its barbarity.
During WW2 it was occupied by the British and became a military prison where at least one man was executed
It is now divided between a detention centre and a naval base for the Italian navy.
Seems to thrive on political and military violence.
It is now joined to the mainland by a stone bridge
