Halong Bay

The overnight train last night was much more comfortable than we expected. We had a bit of a party in the cabin, so that may have helped everyone with sleeping.

Today were headed to Halong Bay and an overnight boat trip. Halong Bay is one of the seven wonders of the natural world, and it really is an amazing and beautiful place.

We were welcomed with yet another seafood feast and then had some time to take in the views as we made our through the outcrops of land.

In the afternoon we visited an enormous cave. It was impressive but there were so many tourists, you felt like you were being herded around. A few of us then went for a kayak, including going through a tunnel of rock into a beautiful blue lagoon. I really wanted to swim.

In the evening more food, with some very extravagant vegetable decorations. Photos will be posted elsewhere.

The boat was anchored up for the night in the middle of the outcrops. We were surrounded by many other boats doing the same thing. Rather than spoiling the experience the glimmer of lights added to the atmosphere. I probably should mention that we didn't have the idyllic blue sky and sea, it was quite cold and misty. I think this quite suited the landscape.
