I grew up in Maryland, where the state flower is the Black-eyed Susan. I am a blue-eyed Susie, so many jokes were made. But still, I have a special fondness for Black-eyed Susans. These were planted in the garden at the entrance to our neighborhood, and since the weeding is hit and miss, this one is being "held captive" by an invading vine.
