Meadowhawk Dragonfly
Our friends Kate and Tom arrived today for a visit, from their home in Maine. We took a walk in the late afternoon, around the small pond on the property. They are also birders, but we saw only one bird--a chickadee, very fleetingly. But dragonflies were much in evidence, including this beauty--it's probably a cardinal meadowhawk. Don't miss the numerous spines on the legs--of great help in capturing their insect prey in flight.
