Pandemic Legacy. Season 1, October

For our first attempt at October, Kobe played the Quarantine Specialist, Hannes the Operations Expert, Leander the Dispatcher (as usual) and I played the Medic, Tarek was absent.

As we won last time, we were not allowed to use any funded events in this game, which made the game a lot harder.

We got a new objective at the start of the game, to find Patient Zero in City Zero (Los Angeles) to find DNA Samples from COdA. This meant a new search track.

Our win bonus from our previous won game : Advance all search parties 1 space (or) add 1 equipment sticker to a city card in one player's hand.
We chose to advance the search party to find Patient Zero

Because we received a lot of yellow cards to begin the game with, we did not have a lot of trouble to find Patient Zero, but this changed the game around again...
Once we found the DNA samples we had all we needed (Gene Sequence, DNA Samples & Virus Development Records) to open up box seven, which gave us :
New Gamepieces : Orange Vaccine factories and vaccines (pill-shaped)
New Rules :
- Destroy the objective to put 7 Quarantine markers in 7 Faded figures
- Vaccine factories : cannot be built in rioting, collapsing or fallen cities and are destroyed if a city riots
- Create vaccine : after drawing cards but before the infections step, put 1 vaccine dose next to every vaccine factory on the board
- Pick up doses : take as many vaccine doses as you like from a vaccine factory in your city and place them on your character card
- Vaccinate : spend a vaccine dose from your character card to :  remove 1 Faded figure from your current city (or) put a vaccinated sticker on your current city if there are no Faded figures there (you may vaccinate cities that are not Faded to prevent the Faded from appearing there, Zodiac interferes : you must spend 1 additional action to Vaccinate for each military base in the region of the city you are vaccinating)
- Players may use the Shuttle Flight action to fly between vaccine factories or between vaccine factories and research stations
- If you reveal a vaccinated city, do not place any Faded figures. This card still counts as one of the 9 cities you must infect.
- Faded figures are never placed into vaccinated cities. Cubes of other diseases are placed normally
New Medical Equipment :
- Bioreactor x3 : Discard this card at any time to produce 3 vaccine doses at any vaccine factory
- Aerosol Unit x3 : Discard when vaccinating. Use one dose of vaccine to remove all the Faded figures in the city and vaccinate the city (very usefull)
Stickers for starting Vaccine factories, destroyed vaccine factories and vaccinated cities
New Objectives :
- Have 3 vaccine factories on the board
- Have 6 vaccinated cities on the board (if you succeed destroy this objective at the end of the game)
A New Character :
- The Immunologist : Remove all Faded figures from your city (spending 1 dose per figure) when doing the Vaccinate action, Once per turn, you may take the Vaccinate action to affect a adjacent city

So finally we had the tools in hand to do something about the COdA-virus, which we used immediately :
- We rapidly build 3 vaccine factories in Paris, Karachi and Kinshasa
- Leander and I blew up a Military base to get that objective too
At that point we thought we won the game, until Leander came to the realization that we needed to find cures for 3 diseases before we could win, because this objective must be reached every game.

Realizing that this would be extremely difficult, we still gave it a shot, but also concentrated where possible to vaccinate cities as we went. So in the end Khartoum, Lagos & São Paulo were vaccinated.

We did find a cure for the Black virus, and were one turn away from a cure for the Red virus, and three from the Blue, but we had one to many outbreaks and the game ended with a loss.

While playing the game and trying to gain some time, Leander used the nuclear strike option to take all the Faded figures (3) out of Mexico City. After this the Nuclear card (Madrid) + Mexico City card were destroyed

On the upside:
- As game end upgrades, we chose to put 2 Starting vaccine factories on the board, because we will need this in later games.
- Next game we can use some funded events
- We're nearing the end of the game and COdA is curable
