The Innocent Railway Tunnel
Well after finishing my Newcastle to Dundee trip yesterday I have now finished just after midnight so I drove up to near Holyrood Park to take this shot of The Innocent Tunnel or St Leonards Tunnel built between 1827-30 at 566 yards long it was believed to be the first tunnel built on a public railway in Scotland costing £12000 to build its 20ft wide and 15ft high it was rope pulled to haul the wagons through to St Leonards by a steam engine connecting to the ropes to pull them up the hill carrying mainly coal for the city the line was part of the Edinburgh / Dalkeith railway line It was know as The Innocent Railway Line as the line never suffered a fatal accident so this is my blip in the wee small hours of The wee Innocent Railway Tunnel at least it was a bigger tunnel than those who dug there way out of the POW camps in The Great Escape. sorry for posting one blip after the other
