Railway Carriage

Today we first went to Leeds Industrial Museum, Armley see Mrs MD's Blip.
Then we went along to have a look at Middleton Railway, also in Leeds.
Whilst the railway isn't quite as 'grand' as K.W.V.R. it was nonetheless very interesting (and staffed by very friendly people).  It claims to be the World's Oldest Working Railway - in 1812 it was the first railway in the world to successfully employ steam locomotives commercially - so there you have it :-)
Today's trains were being hauled by the Hunslet diesel locomotive - 7051 "John Alcock"  (see my extra) - but I was intrigued by the interior of the carriages - all polished and varnished woodwork. They started life as parcels vans on Southern Railways and were purchased from British Rail in the 1980s and converted to passenger coaches by Middleton Railway.
A most interesting day indeed.
