Association
There’s more filming going on in Saltaire. Some of the set transformations I’ve seen in other people’s pictures over the past couple of days have been impressive. Whereas my image is just a gathering of folk down the end of Fanny Street which seemed to be where all the action was on Wednesday evening.
The current work is for a Julian Fellowes Netflix drama, The English Game, about the early years of association football. Coincidentally I was on my way to watch football at Salts FC, who comfortably defeated Oxenhope Recreation by four goals to one. A further association is that Salts FC’s ground was the filming location for Barnstoneworth United in Golden Gordon, a classic episode of Michael Palin’s Ripping Yarns.
And one final connection to Tuesday’s blip, The pitches at Silsden and Salts share the distinction of being on the relatively narrow strip of land between the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and the River Aire, albeit about nine miles apart.
