Prairie Grass trail

Saturday
We had a change for our bike ride today and went cycling on the Prairie Grass trail, which runs east from Xenia to London. If we were to take our usual Little Miami trail far enough north, it would take us through, and beyond Xenia. Besides the Prairie Grass trail heading east, there is also a trail heading northwest, the Creekside Trail, which in turn connects with the Mad River trail and then the Great Miami trail centered on Dayton making Xenia not only a crossroads of bike trails, but part of a huge hub.
These cross trails are generally not as interesting as our local Little Miami, since the land is really flat here and you are in the centre of Ohio corn and soy bean country, and no river to follow, so the trail is just straight, with maybe a slight deviation when it crosses a road. However, there were quite a few wildflowers along the trail attracting the butterflies, and in any case it’s good to have a change. We joined the trail in Cedarville, east of Xenia, and cycled as far as South Charleston, about 16 miles return, where there is the nicely restored depot and locomotives shown in my collage.
