Moss Rose

Isn't it funny how memory works? My first thought when I saw this was that Macclesfield Town play at Moss Rose and when City were in the lower leagues tickets were at a premium because it's not a very big ground. Then I thought about a pub called the Moss Rose that we used to call in at from time to time. Memory being what it is I think it was near Parrs Wood but I can't find anything about it on the Interweb.

In among other stuff I'm planning a trip to Manchester to meet up with my cousin and his wife. He is from Abroad, Boulder in Colorado, which is where Mork & Mindy lived and I've not seen him for more than 40 years.

When I last saw him, we were both much younger men, we suggested a quick trip into Manchester so that he could "see some of the architecture" for which Manchester is so rightly famous. We visited a couple of famous sites including The Peveril of the Peak and Tommy Ducks. Tommy's is long gone after a famous stunt by the brewery which knocked it down in the middle of the night - they were fined £150,000 which was a few bob in 1993. When we got back to mum's other family members had arrived including Frank, a man who enjoyed a beer. He was displeased that we might have snuck off for a drink without him so we told him that we'd been out enjoying the choral music at the cathedral. For a long time going for a beer was referred to as "going to choir practice" and my mum used to joke about it even into old age.

Memories - strange things
