Basic recycling?

Once or twice now I've found an avian corpse around the garden. NOT always as a result of window collision. Rather than a ritual interment I tend to pop them within one of the raised beds where they usually deteriorate with NO obvious increase in the local Blue Bottles. About now(ish) I spotted a deceased Ratlet. I left it where it was - again no evidence of carrion gatherers; unless they detected something "fishy" about the rat. Whatever; it's now part of the ecosystem.
