OWZAT
My first experience of a cricket match, rather late in life. We drove to Headingley, which was only 28 miles or so, parked for free a few hundred yards from the entrance, result! And then battled our way to the Family Stand. Thank goodness we’d got seats there as, though I have no objection to people enjoying themselves, I would not have lasted long in the west stand. £60 for a ticket, £5 for a pint of beer, many of which did they consume, and I can’t imagine how much of the match they actually saw. The antics of the fancy dress attendees was a sight to see but not conducive to watching cricket if amongst them. The aerial travels of the blow up pink flamingo was amusing to watch during any lull in play though.
Anyway, England showed a bit of true grit and battled forth to make it an entertaining game. The prediction I had been given that we’d be home shortly after lunch was totally wrong, and we ended up leaving before the last over to beat the rush.
Passing through Skipton we collected gluten free fish and chips from Bizzie Lizzie’s for tea, recommended by a neighbour and excellent, especially as freshly cooked to order. I am now about to collapse into bed, exhausted at watching those young men running about in this extreme heat.
Tomorrow we can watch the highlights of the last day in comfort!
