Indian wedding
Sue and I set out for the farmer's market this morning because PEACHES! On the way we passed this spectacular wedding. You might not be able to tell, but the man and boy are astride a beautiful white horse. It all seemed very joyful and prosperous, and as if it's in another universe in some ways. A universe where the Amazon is not on fire and the glaciers are not melting. A meme from Facebook: "The wrong Amazon is burning and the wrong ICE is melting."
We did get a few peaches, a couple of ears of corn, and two tomatoes, but the prices are jaw-dropping. Peaches and tomatoes are $4.50 a pound, a result of corporate agribusiness pressure on small farmers. I can only afford them once a year, and today was the day. Reminds me of the famous Buddhist story--while falling over a cliff with a hungry tiger waiting at the bottom, the wise one plucks a strawberry and eats it in bliss as she falls.
