I Do Love A Funicular
Budapest: Day 1
We started this morning on a walking tour with the very lovely and very enthusiastic Zoltan, who ably led his merry band of international visitors through the streets of Pest, across the chain bridge and up to the top of Castle Hill in Buda, with it’s spectacular views back across to Pest. He was very interesting and it was a great introduction to the city.
Sushi and I opted to stay in the area and explore further after the tour had finished. We visited St Matthias Church which was beautifully decorated, all with paint and stencil (extra). We explored the Labyrinth under the old castle remains, which was a spooky experience not for the faint hearted as the tunnels got smaller and darker and colder the further in you went. Finally we caught the funicular down to the river...now as you may or may not know, I do love a funicular.
For our evening entertainment, we hopped on a bus to the permanent Capital Circus. Now I have never been to the circus so with front row seats, I was very excited. And it didn’t disappoint, it was mainly clowns and acrobatics and the only animals were the dogs (extras). It shows how visual humour can be as even with most of it being in Hungarian we had such a fun time.
