Edam
Our first rest day, so obviously I did what you do - get on the bike for a shufty round the neighbourhood. First up, Edam where the annual flea market is being held. The place was so mobbed that after a coffee and kroket I headed to Vollendam which was a lot quieter apart from the seafront. Still, managed a sit and read in the shade.
Onward to Monnickendam which is most lovely - if you like old buildings, yachts, and new microbreweries. Fancy that. And I truly never knew. Bierderij Waterland, for future reference.
Back to Edam to meet the boys and load up provisions for our bbq, which we soon have, sitting down at the beach across from the campsite. Roasting.
But the fun wasn’t finished there, for one of the local pubs had live ents - Denis Burke, a favourite from around these parts with his band doing an assortment of reggae, blues and soul covers which goes down very well, and suddenly it was midnight.
These rest days are just so necessary.
