The joy of music
We were sad when Monica and Serge decided to stop doing summer concerts in their garden. But they were somehow persuaded to do one last one this evening. They could hardly have found better musicians for the occasion: how can you listen to jazz manouche and not smile? And how lucky are we to be able to sit in their back garden with 120 other people and hear genuinely top class musicians Steeve Laffont and Costel Nitescu?
They were brilliant: I felt a bit sorry for the poor rhythm guitarist, who never got a chance to shine. The bass player was excellent too, when we were able to tear our attention away from guitar and fiddle to appreciate him.
We were the usual crew, as seen at Chris's vernissage: us, Ingrid, Ghislaine, Vincent, Chris, Sophie, Shay, Trish. We had such a great, convivial evening, and we weren't the only ones urging Monica and Serge to continue next year, with many offers of help. It really is a unique setting and they manage to pull in some fantastic musicians. Here's the quartet at the Duc des Lombards in Paris. And here's a very small Flickr album.
