Broken Cable

On the way in to work today, my 15-speed bicycle suddenly suffered a downgrade to a 3-speed. This broken gear cable was the culprit.

When this happens, the derailleur mechanism on the rear wheel slackens right off and the chain clicks onto the smallest sprocket: top gear. My only adjustment is then the coarse 3-sprocket one next to the pedals. Fortunately London, while hillier than my native Cambridge, is flat enough that the bike's still perfectly rideable like that.

Added to the 'to do' list for Sunday; replace the cable and re-adjust the gears back to full range.
