Sew Powerful Purses

At the Festival of Quilts a few weeks ago I came across this charity which provides purses (bags) for girls in Zambia.
In one of the poorest areas the girls have no access to sanitary items so have to miss school when they have a period.
The charity teaches the village women to make reusable pads from donated fabrics.
When the girls accept one of these purses they commit to attending school during their period so they don’t miss out on valuable education time. This is the first bag I have made and I have three more nearing completion. It’s hard to believe that girls/ young women are lacking even basic sanitary items and this has a direct impact on their education.
