Mercury Rising
Yet another stunning sculpture overlooking the people of Glasgow - this located above Tony Macaroni's in the Italian Centre.
Mercury was a messenger who wore winged sandals, he was a god of trade, merchants, and travel in Roman mythology. His name is related to the Latin word merx ("merchandise"; compare merchant, commerce, etc.), mercari (to trade), and merces (wages). Most of his characteristics and mythology were borrowed from the analogous Greek god, Hermes.
The Italian Centre was designed by Page & Park Architects who are fond of including art in their architecture.
