Happy 100th, Mom

On this date, August 29, 1919, my mom, Ina Alline Thornton Witten, was born. I have so many things to be grateful to her, but this is the most ironic, and yet the most powerful. She had to quit school after her 8th grade year in rural Oklahoma, but because she read to me nearly every day when I was small, she is hands down the reason I ended up with a love for words and literature. I owe my career as an English teacher to her. So happy 100th Celestial Birthday, Mom. Make sure the old man takes you somewhere fancy tonight. Love you and miss you.
