Timber !!!

This has been a very expensive week with the car in for servicing on Tuesday, the cat at the vets on Wednesday, the plumber yesterday and today the tree surgeons.  We had a fairly tall goat willow tree at the end of the garden that was completely dead and was overhanging an outbuilding.  It had been shedding branches in the recent winds and sadly it had to come down.  I asked them to leave the stump at about 10 ft height so that it was safe but could still be a good resource for the birds as it rots over the years to come.  While they were here I also had them take a look at our ash trees as they are showing signs of die-back.  They are safe at the moment so he suggested leaving them until next spring to see how things develop.  It will be so sad if we lose them all.
