Tom Stoppard in “Jumpers” has a character say that he always thought of Edinburgh not as the Athens of the North, but as the Reykjavik of the South.
Witty but on a late warm summer evening in the capital, sights such as this (the side of the RSA at the bottom of the Mound) confirm that is the former description that best fits this lovely city. .
