Chalet Farewell
Off across France to the west coast for a week. A last delicious breakfast provided by Nono and Frank. It was a sad goodbye to them all, particularly Florence who was sorry to see us go. It’s about 600 zig zagging miles across the centre of the country so we had booked a hotel in the massif central near Clermont Ferrand.
These small rural hotels in France are really struggling and this one was almost empty. But you could see along the chain of extinct volcanoes including Puy de Dôme and we had a decent dinner so it was a good stop off point. The drive across the centre of France is spectacular and empty. Worth spending more time and doing a bit of cycling. There were lots of 1100 m cols with gentle inclines which were deceptive, but not if you are on a bike.
