The Impressionists

A trip to the National Gallery of Australia today to see their Monet and Impressionist exhibition. I didn’t realise today was the penultimate day of the exhibition so I had to queue for an hour, but it was lovely to see all the beautiful paintings, and cheaper than a trip to Paris!

Whilst it was a greatly curated exhibition, what was slightly frustrating was the layout of the gallery - the impressionist paintings work best when you can stand right back to see them (the physicist in me is screaming ‘far-field effect’) but the rooms weren’t that big and it was difficult to get the range, so we were forced into near-field range which sadly isn’t anywhere near as effective.

So I took my physics inspired self off to Mount Stromlo to have a wander round the observatory site.

A refreshingly cultured day for me :)
