St Anne’s Hospital
This lovely little courtyard is St Anne’s Hospital, Appleby in Westmorland. They are almshouses for women created by Lady Anne Clifford, of Skipton Castle fame, in the 17th century.

We drove into rain on our journey NW taking the scenic route from Kirby Lonsdale through Kirby Stephen where the cloud broke and the rain stopped. When we reached Appleby it was bright and breezy. Had a walk around taking in these almshouses with their little chapel.
Buoyed by the improved weather the decision was made to go to nearby Dufton Show. A good choice as apart from a little bit of drizzle from the fells it was fine and dry underfoot and very soon we had bumped into Gordon (High Pike) an ex colleague and PaulaJ.
After a chat in the produce tent Paula took me off to meet Clickychick who had a wonderful photography stand. Superb photos and lovely hand made frames.
The show is in a great setting with a devilish fell race up Dufton Pike, this had just finished when we arrived. Craft and food stalls, produce exhibits, (I loved the felted hares!) sheep and cattle. Horse jumping and carting, vintage cars and tractors we even saw them playing Quoits. A much bigger show than I expected drawing people from all over Cumbria. See extra 2 for a taste of it.
I heard about it from Paula on blip of course so thank you Paula and great to see you and Gordon again and thanks for introducing me to Clickychick
No need to go home as we are having a couple of nights in the Scottish Border area, an excellent start to a short break.
