...the first day of Spring, the four seasons brought to Australia by the Europeans in the late 1700s each three  months long but in reverse.
Botanist Tim Entwhistle in his book Sprinter and Sprummer argues the case for a five season year reflecting the antipodean cycles in weather, plant and animal activity.
'For example, the ‘spring’ flowering period for most Australian plants actually begins in August, the last month of ‘winter’. Tim’s solution is ‘sprinter’, a new season in August–September, which also happens to be peak wattle season.'
Aboriginal groups have their own local calendars ranging from two to thirteen seasons which equate with real life biological seasons.

Today definitely a 'sprinter' day.
