Hutton Roof
Church this morning with Gill then after lunch we set out for a walk on nearby Hutton Roof, not terribly high but lovely views across the Lakes to Morecambe Bay in the South and to the Yorkshire Dales to the East. We got a bit wet at times and it was fairly blowy on the top, but a good walk. We saw an enormous flock of goldfinches, more than I think I've ever seen together, most likely around 50. They would settle for a while then fly off and swirl in whirls around the thistles and ragwort.
Back down again, we spent a quiet evening in being glad to be warm and dry.
Steps 13,200
Extra - a notice in Gill's church dating from 1657 of a generous (at the time) bequest, the family name was Hutton, so presumably connected to Hutton Roof.
