Divided

On our side of the fence
there’s a sense of dismay
and disbelief that others don’t want
what we want. There’s outrage too.

Over on their side they chant
slogans and wave banners that display
an opposing point of view. Good manners
have gone out the window.

And those two.
What are they up to?
What are they plotting?
Who do they want to overthrow?

And yet…ordinary life goes on,
even when times are grim.
Maybe he’s merely in the process
of asking her out. Or her him.
