French Connection?   

Major General Roy lived here.  He established a network of survey points in England to an unprecedented accuracy, in order to connect with a similar network in France, thereby facilitating cooperation between the observatories in Greenwich and Paris.   His life and work is a favourite study of mine. Here's one of the base marks.
