Saint-Leu
Today we (All International students in Réunion) had a welcome day which included a 3 hour long talk from what seemed like hundreds of people from former students, to police officers, to the head of education for the city, before we were taken on an excursion to the botanical garden in Saint-Leu - named the 'Conservatoire botanique national de Mascerin.'
This very colonial building was used as the headquarters of a coffee plantation made to rival those used by the British while they controlled nearby Mauritius.
Sights included a great sea view from up in the hills, 5 types of palm trees, huge spiders and many cacti.
