The London Mithraeum
W needed to be in London today so I went in too. We had a light lunch in Covent Garden and then after she had finished we headed off to the London Mithraeum. It is a small temple of the cult of Mithras that was discovered in 1954 and is now preserved underneath a large office block in the City. It is free to enter, and although there isn't a lot to see, what they have is really well done with good use of light to give the impression of the original walls and columns.
We were a bit early to go home so we then called in to the Bank of England Museum which was fascinating; lots to see and even a (well protected) genuine gold bar worth over half a million pounds that you could pick up! All in all, a good day, and good to see a bit of our history.
