The Next Chapter!

Hull to Home 238 miles

After a surprisingly comfortable night on board the Pride of York we woke to the sun rising as we entered the Humber Estuary (excuse the sea spray on the cabin window!). Having made a reservation for breakfast at 7.45am we dressed and ambled along to the restaurant to find it still closed...we hung around until the doors opened...just as the tannoy message stated it was 7am...silly beggars that we are - we were still working on continental time!! Luckily they fed us anyway as I was starving.

After a very fresh walk around the deck (crepusculars over the docks) we finished packing ready for disembarkation and finally hit the road homewards about 10am. We stopped at Wetherby for fuel and sustenance (well it had been a while since breakfast!) and the place was mobbed...I’ve never seen it so busy! A further stop in Northumberland (we know we’re nearly home when the dual carriageway runs out!) for some lunch before getting home just as the grocery delivery arrived...Tesco’s new no bags delivery, the stuff was everywhere! By the time that was dealt with the car was unloaded so I set to emptying the bags...the washer is now working overtime.

So after17 days, 5 countries, countless passes and about 2500 miles our first continental adventure is over...it was tough at times, the heat in France when we arrived wasn’t conducive to long distance driving; there were one or two hairy moments when the driver forgot he was on the continent and we definitely needed our more relaxed day in the middle to catch our breath but we’ve enjoyed the experience, seen some wonderful sights, driven some fabulous roads...all in brilliant company. There’s a trip to Wales planned for next month, weather permitting so something to look forward to!

Many thanks for all the comments, stars and hearts you’ve sprinkled whilst we’ve been away...I’ll look forward to reading them all properly over the next day or so.
