Memento Mori
We took the opportunity on a fine late summer day to visit the ancient church at Kirkmaiden on the Mull of Galloway. We were given a graveyard tour by lovely Helen who unwrapped layer after layer of local history: power struggles, smuggling, religious ascendancy, wartime civil defence were brought to life for us. The church sits high on a hill overlooking the sea with views all round but Helen kept us riveted to the drama of the graveyard.
My Blip is of a Memento Mori - there were 3 in all - which depicts a skull and crossbones, an hourglass and a winged cherub head - grim reminders of mortality and judgement.
