Jouk

The chain on the right is called a Jouk and is to be found in the village of Ceres in Fife, attached to the wall of the Weigh House. the Weigh House was where stuff was weighed and priced a few hundered years ago in this part of the world. It also served as a jail for those who committed such sins as being sick on the floor of the alehouse, brawling in the street or being too fliytie and looking out the window on Sundays. I think there were two joukes at the time but there's only one now. It may even stil be in use. The weigh house is now part of the Fife Folk Musuem, a small but very interesting place and very much worth a half day out.
