Whitehall

This was the scene when we tried to leave the "Stop the Coup" demonstration outside Downing Street. Both ends of Whitehall were blocked by counter-demonstrators and the police warned us to keep well back.

While waiting for the speeches earlier in the afternoon a bottle had smashed against the Women of World War II monument and I had feared that somebody had started hurling beer bottles (there was a few suspicious looking types around who were moved on by the police). Luckily it turned out to be an accident and people were soon filling empty coffee cups with the shards and cleaning the pavement around the monument.
