Silly Saturday ....

..... Perhaps the last for the year!

As today is my birthday we wanted to do something special.  We started by going to a park (Spruce Run Recreation Area) in New Jersey that R had read about.  Supposedly there were some decent bird sightings there recently.  

Thankfully it was only about 30 to 35 minutes from home so the drive wasn't too long.  The park wasn't nearly as big as we thought it was going to be and other than some gulls and crows we didn't see many other birds!  There was a nice beach area where we had lunch so it wasn't a total disappointment.  And as we were walking near the water R spotted this smiley face beach ball making it's way along the shore! He quickly ran after it as I had an idea for it's use when we returned home!

After leaving Spruce Run Park we decided to go the Jacobsburg State Park as they were having a Greenways Festival.  The Lehigh Valley Greenways Festival is an annual event that celebrates the many benefits of nature and variety of outdoor opportunities offered in Lehigh and Northampton counties.  We visited a lot of the vendor tents and then went into the Educational Center to watch a live wildlife presentation. And Smokey Bear was even there! It was lots of fun!


After leaving Jacobsburg we stopped really quick at the grocery store to pick up a few things and then came home so that I could put the beach ball to good use!


Have you ever tried to go under water whilst holding onto an inflated beach ball?!?  And holding an underwater camera in the other hand?!? Well, I can tell you it's not easy!! But with some trial and error I finally got a few shots that I was happy with!
