Italian rope trick

Whilst on holiday I left the house without a belt on my shorts. As they kept falling down I nicked this bit of rope from a boat shed to make a temporary belt.
I somehow came home with it.
After a towel, a short length of rope is the next most useful thing - I imagine Douglas Adams would say.
