Controversial?
Today, my last full day in Cardiff was a geocaching day so not too many interesting photographs but since I passed through Llandaff I had a look at the cathedral.
It’s quite a surprise to walk in and see the statue of Jesus on that giant concrete structure. One of the guides there told me it was part of the restoration in the early 1950s to restore the Cathedral after damage during WW2. It was pretty controversial then and indeed still is to some extent. Some didn’t like the starkness of the concrete while others said the Epstein statue didn’t look like Jesus.
When I looked around there was a lot of concrete which wasn't Immediately obvious.
I love it; I think it has a very modern look; more modern even than the 50s.
