Adoration of the Magi
Every home in Catalonia has at least one passebra, or nativity scene in it. Some like us have two.
Mine is home made from scrap wood, bits of bark and cork with plastic figures and of course the caganer, or pooping figure, a symbol of fecundity I am told. It is added to and changed each year and has had many manifestations in the ten years that we have lived partly in Catalonia and partly in Scotland. it is outside in the porch and measures in total 1m x 2m.
The other one is upstairs in the dining room, a posh one in ceramic with sculptured ox and ass, and altogether far more dignity (and no cagener).
I have realised that my first sentence is untrue, I am sure the many Moslem households don't have passebres on show, nor perhaps do the Jewish families.
