Spindle Tree
This lovely tree which is native to Asia is commonly known as Hamilton's Spindle Tree 'Miss Pinkie' .... named after Francis Buchanan-Hamilton, a Scottish Physician who, whilst living in India, contributed significantly to the field of botany.
There were three small Spindle trees growing in the arboretum down at Dumfries House. I've walked the paths through trees many times but I've today was the first time I spotted the pink fruits with bright red seeds on the Spindle tree.
The extra photo is a clump of autumn crocuses growing in the woodland garden.
