Life's Little Moments

Hello, 40!

In my Extra the other day, I included Yard Birds #39 and 40, an Ovenbird and Black Throated Green Warbler.  Having had a number of warblers visiting the garden and trees today, I got a much better shot of #40 and decided to make him my blip.  So meet #40, the Black throated Green Warbler.  I've never fully understood the green reference in this bird's name but in the spring the males do have a lovely black throat, so at least that part makes sense.  There were at least three different individuals of this species around today, gleaning little insects from the leaves and flitting around in the way that warblers do.

In addition to this lovely creature, I also had an American Redstart, several Chestnut Sided , Northern Parula, and Magnolia warblers flitting around the garden.  At one point, all the newly fledged Tufted Titmouse babies were also out there and finally one of the warblers (the redstart) had enough of the relentless begging and chased one hapless fledgling off into the woods.  The fledgling never shut up all the time it was being chased either.  Who needs television?

If you'd like to see some of the other warblers from today, click HERE and scroll through the first four images.  Even though they aren't as brightly plumed as they are in the spring when they arrive, there is still something very special about warblers.

Day 3 at the gym for the week - all cardio today.  Plan to hit the weights again tomorrow if I feel like my muscles are sufficiently recovered.

Last night's presentation on Costa Rica was extremely well received and there were lots of questions, which is always a good sign.  I was definitely on an adrenaline high for the hour I was up there, and promptly crashed right after we got home.

We are still working through the transition issues with MIL in the new facility.  We'll get there - it just takes time.  Her new room is working out better than the room originally assigned, so that's a tick in the Plus Column.  And the group of lady residents of Italian extraction who we've dubbed "the Mob" has been inviting her to eat with them, so that's also good.  The first "interviewed" Hubs to find out about MIL, when her family came here, what part of Italy they were from, etc.  Most of them are first generation Italian Americans, like MIL, and speak at least some Italian.

So that is a wrap for today.
