One of My Favourites.............
................is this Mahonia (bealei) which shines as if the sun was shining on it even on a dull wet day - (but the sun WAS shining on it this morning - so it looks even better!! ) I blipped the very first raceme to open on the 30th of November but now all of them are opening and revealing their beauty. It will continue like this for at least another 3 weeks. They are excellent evergreen shrubs but beware. their leaves are like tiny daggers, and really hurt if you get prickled by them. They are very hardy and inexpensive to buy and a couple will provide at least 2 months of "sunshine" to any garden. And to add another bonus, the flowers smell like lilies of the valley.
The weather started off really sunny but by lunchtime had reverted back to another dull day
