Market and Calamorro
Today was market day in Arroyo de la Miel. We walked through the park , up another hill past and the railway station to get there. It was very hot!
We are staying in Benalmádena Costa. Benalmádena Pueblo is the hill village, and Arroyo is like the town centre. They all blend in together.
Market stalls included: underwear, clothing, belts and handbags, fruit and veg, plants and flowers, Andalusian pottery, jewellery and the inevitable ‘tat’ stalls. There were a lot of Spanish locals and expats doing their shopping.
Tom bought a belt, the lady cut it to the right size for him. I got a couple of bracelets handmade by a chappie from Scotland, he and his wife are expats living here in Spain.
I spotted the cable car and we decided to give it a whirl. I’ve been to this area before with Mum and she’s not keen on heights so I was pleased we did it today.
The car took 15 minutes to reach the top of Calamorro mountain at 2500 feet. After a little climb on foot up some steep limestone steps with a metal hand rail to stop you plunging down the mountain. We had a spectacular 360 degree view.
An added bonus was a raptor show. I’ve never seen a Griffin Vulture before. They were fascinating to watch as they soared above our heads with a wing span of over 2 metres. More birds came out and did tricks for the audience. I do like birds as long as they don’t flap their wings..... I don’t like the idea of the birds being exploited for our benefit either but they did appear to be well cared for.
We headed back towards the hotel via Fountains Square and chilled for the rest of the day, having walked 14,000 steps a cool San Miguel was in order.
