Forty-Seven Years

Forty-Seven years ago I was an Artificer Apprentice at HMS Caledonia in Rosyth. It was a Sunday and I was on duty which meant I couldn’t leave barracks but around lunch time a message came through that my wife had been taken into Dunfermiline Maternity Hospital.
I got a lift there and did the whole ‘pacing up and down, new father thing’ and a little after 2pm my eldest child, Sarah Jayne, was born.
Since then I have had forty-seven years of highs and almost no lows, with a family of her own now she continues to bring great joy to my life.
As much a friend as a daughter I find Sarah easy to talk to and more often than not her perspective on things I am pondering chimes with mine.
Happy Birthday Lovely Lady
See you soon.
