Mine

Hope this meets the challenge for today

It's a sketch I did a while ago of some old lead mine workings above Pateley Bridge in Yorkshire. The mines were played out many years ago and most of the workings have been dismantled, but a few remote ones still crumble away gently.

The raised earthworks where narrow gauge railways ran can also still be seen in the area and nowadays serve as public footpaths and bridleways for the most part.

I would imagine that the ironwork of the winding mechanism in the one I sketched has long since succumbed to the Elf and Safe Tea man. One day, in summer, I'll go and check.
