Chemin des Dames

Near Reims; a WW1 battle site that the French tried repeatedly to prise the Germans from the top of the ridge. The Chemin des Dames is a road that dominates the Aisne Valley and commands the route to Paris. The picture is an installation recognising a French Senegalese regiment that fought bravely, and with huge losses, here.
