The Burren
Today was wet, windy and dull. When we woke up we couldn't see across the bay to the other side, and the cloud lifted occasionally but not very far.
We went out into the rain late morning, visiting The Burren Centre in Kilfenora where we found out some background about the area. It is an area of limestone pavements, and whilst a wide variety of plants grow, they're mostly small - there are few trees. There's an example of the terrain in the last extra.
There was a rally taking place, and they were using public roads to get between stages, so there were many rally cars turning outside the visitor centre. The old Escort in the extra had broken down, and was later taken away on a trailer.
We walked around the corner of the visitor centre to St. Fachtnan's Cathedral where the main blip was taken. One area had the roof intact, whilst another had a glass roof on protecting many stone crosses.
After visiting a local gift shop we had lunch in a cafe adjoining the visitor centre then drove through to Leamaneh Castle, which is the ruined house in the extra. We were closely watched by "The Brotherhood of the Young Cows" as we photographed it.
We drove up the road beside the ruin and had tea and cake at Caherconnell Stone Fort, but by this time the rain was horizontal so we declined to pay to visit the fort itself.
We visited Terrazza Del Burren viewpoint where we took the extra of the limestone landscape before running back to the car as the weather closed in. We'll hopefully visit this again later in the week when the weather is better.
