The Few (supported by the sometimes forgotten Many) fought The Battle of Britain 79 years ago today. Those that were lucky enough to have survived to land back after what was maybe their third or forth flight of the day, checked their watch, recorded their flight times in their logbook, and knew that they would have to still go back up tomorrow and risk their aircraft and lives to continue the fight for eventual victory.. Although fighting would continue for several more weeks, with many losses of life both in the air and on the ground, it had become clear that the Luftwaffe had failed to secure the air superiority needed for invasion.
