Stopping For Gas
Well what a fabulous place we found to stay last night. The Aviator Hotel - extra 1 - is located at the side of an active aerodrome. It has been done out in an Art Deco style and has lots of artefacts lying around the place. The place has a fabulous history. The restaurant / bar building in the extra is one of the old terminal buildings!.
Last night, whilst sitting outside with our pre dinner drinks we were treated to a fly past and mini display by the local aerobatic team (UK champions). After the display the planes landed and were pulled back to the hangars.
This morning after breakfast we found this guy filling his plane up at the ‘gas station’ on the airfield. There were other light aircraft around, extra 2, and there is a small museum with a Hawker Hunter aircraft outside, extra 3 - sadly the museum wasn’t open in time for us to visit.
We then drove on to Bedford to Mrs madwill’s sister’s house for lunch - their mother had been collected from her new flat and joined us for the day.
After a long afternoon nattering we set off home - stopping en-route in Doncaster to collect Finlay and see the granddaughters before bedtime!
No time to blip this on Sunday - so getting posted early Monday!
